Aurafit AM28/Ella 3, rudimentary review

What look likes a nice watch discarded due to its app on Android…

The watch itself seems fine but the app is so invasive I axed it. You can not even enter Settings, Apps, Aurafit without “Settings” crashing, So needed to run “adb shell am force-stop com.sma_aurafit” to kill it from a PC, and then uninstalled it!!!
I do not know but it MIGHT work better for those in the apple sect.

I tried a number of different apps, the only one that recognised it was “RWfit” (from a cheap smart ring), but it failed to connect.

I bought it from here. The black variant was not available, and would not become available before the fall(!)

But the watch seems OK.

The case is ø41.7mm and 48.5mm long including band attachment
8.3mm thick, 7.1mm outside the ~23mm protrusion.
The ad as so often is the case LIES on the thickness, clearly indicating that the 7mm is including the protrusion, though it actually is 19% thicker, and only goes outside the protrusion if rounding 7.1 down to 7…

The 1.32″ display only covers 64.6% with over 4mm bezels – far from impressive in 2026…
The watch came completely depleted, so that might indicate that it has been stored for quite a while, or is just a lousy quality battery with pour storage stamina, or had accidentally been packaged “on”.

The button in the manual (yes there IS a physical manual in the box!) should be a rotary crown, but seems to just be a plain push button.

Strangely they designed the band holder in the box to indicate that it is not really suited minor female wrists???

Though the 48.5mm is a bit large for a less ø42mm watch, it is not that bad, it fits ok on my roughly 6cm wide and 175mm wrist.
The band is a standard 20mm pin band, but the nice Milanese band it came with would not work on a much larger hand than mine (gloves 9), unless you got hypermobility to curl the hand. But as I said the band is standard so easy to replace with something else

The app offers a setting for a nice watch feature of either a high rate of heart-rate checking (I do not know how high) or a smart mode that lowers this sample frequency when you are inactive to save battery.

But it did not survive long enough here to be tested further. An app I can not control the settings of and thus prevent it from all kind of stuff, well it is going to be short lived here!!!

You CAN start the watch without the app. When you turn it on after a factory reset, you are offered language selection and next a QR. if you swipe the QR up, you get som basic system info. If you tap five times quickly on that you get to a test menu, where you can test the display as well as touch (that does NOT cover the full ø466 pixels rather something around ø400, but you are unlikely to notice that in real usage).
If you tap maybe ten times quickly on th QR you skip the pairing. BUT there is no place setting the date and time, so it default to starting 2020-01-01 00:00. So if you do not care about the date, you COULD do this at midnight!! I obviously have no idea of how fast the time will drift without syncing to a phone.

It has been packed down and will be considered wasted money….. unless I can find an aPple sect member that can try it.
